A Farmer's Dedication: Inspite the challenges of life, his dedication to his farm and his determination to have a new beginning will lead him to a brighter future with his family.
Synopsis
Damo is based on the true story of a farmer named Henry Damo who embodies determination and hardwork; a dreamer who wants to fulfill his dream with his father to create an opening for a new beginning for his son. Despite the challenges that he faces during the day, a new dawn will emerge with the light of a brighter future. This narrative film captures the reality of a sharecropper’s struggles and how they manage to get by, yearning for a change of a new beginning, hence the title “Damo” an Ilocano word that translates to “The beginning”.
Director's Intent
I chose to direct Damo to give emphasis on the silent resilience of Filipino sharecroppers, told through the true story of Henry Damo—a man who represents not only the perseverance of a father, but the enduring hope of a generation yearning for change. This film is my way of honoring the quiet sacrifices of farmers who, despite facing systemic challenges, continue to sow seeds of hope for their children’s future. Damo, meaning “The beginning” in Ilocano, is not just a title—it’s a promise. A promise that every hardship carries with it the potential for transformation, and that from the soil of struggle, a new dawn can rise.
Producer's Intent
To highlight the transformative impact of agrarian reform on beneficiaries’ lives, showcasing their resilience, growth, and contribution to community development.
