Logline
MACATI is a short film that features the power of hope, wherein one cooperative, MACATI Rang-ay Agrarian Reform displayed after the devastating typhoon Maring.
Synopsis
The story follows Cynthia, MACATI's treasurer, who seems to be having flashbacks to the events of Typhoon Maring, and their efforts in preparing their vinegar products for trade fairs. As she loses hope due to the damage caused by the flooding to their headquarters and the huge amount of loss they have, Salvador, the current head of the coop, steps in and reassures Cynthia that they will get through it and build MACATI again. Cynthia cries her heart out, but with the efforts of the members and the help from the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), MACATI recovered and implemented the Climate Resilient Farm Productivity Support Project (CRFPSP) introduced by DAR. They did not just recover but grew stronger and bigger as they expanded their headquarters and services. In the end, Cynthia, who was full of doubts, gave a smile as she felt comforted by the progress of MACATI.
Director's Intent
I chose to direct this short film because I want to show that even those who help and contribute to the local farmers of sugarcane are not exempt from struggling and challenges, that they too experience doubt and losing hope, but because of their fierce eagerness to continue serving the farmers, they stood again.
Producer's Intent
To show a different angle on what happens behind the closed doors of an agrarian cooperative that is known to many for helping the local farmers.
